Our Review:

DList.com is a great-looking, snazzy site, whilst maintaining a simple layout that makes it easy to navigate. It's good whether you want some no-strings fun or something more serious, so you'd be wise to at least stop by and see what's on offer.

It's free to register and create a profile and all you need is a valid email address and a couple of minutes to fill in some details. It's not the largest site you'll find, with something like 25,000 profiles. Most members are located in the US and at the time of this review there were just 528 online. If you bear in mind that a proportion of these will be fake or unused profiles, it doesn't take long to realize that your chances of meeting other gay guys will be significantly less than on some of the larger sites in our Top 10, such as GayxxxDates.com or OutPersonals.com. The profiles are fairly detailed, with plenty of fun facts, interests and hobbies. In addition to member details you can also get to see what they're looking for. You can add photos and embed videos into your profile, including media from YouTube.com and Flickr.com. You won't see any rude photos unless a member unlocks them for you. All you need to do is make contact and click on the request private photo button on that member's profile. There's also a 'backroom' feature with hotter photos, which also requires unlocking. It's a good idea to get your profile verified (see the site for instructions) so that other members know that you're genuine. You also get to see the last login date, so it's relatively easy to tell if a profile's still in use.

There's nothing especially original in search tools. The basic search allows you to find profiles by preselecting criteria such as age range, distance, location and last login date. You can filter results to bring up members online and those with verified profiles. This makes it much easier to find genuine members. The advanced search resembles the basic search only with significantly more options (upgraded members only). You can also click on a couple of preconfigured search tabs to get lists of guys online and new profiles. The main ways of connecting with other members involve emailing and IM if you want to chat in real time, by clicking on the button on their profile. To introduce yourself tentatively you might send an 'I'm into you' icebreaker to open up the channels of communication. You can also make friend requests, add members to a favorites list, join a group (several hundred groups on the site catering to a range of interests including sports, hobbies, politics, movies, etc. Some groups have up to 5000 members; who would have thought so many DListers would be into chatting about 'hairy men'?). It's also possible to post status update messages to your friends of the DList community, to get attention (or not) and to which others can post comments. So there's a whole range of ways to get in touch. 

Impressively, free members get to join, create a profile, email, upload photos and use IM chat. DListPlus gives you extra features, such as advanced search tools, access to private photos, listings above free members and more control over your profile account. It's not too expensive either, so it's worth considering making the upgrade. The technical support is really good, with an extensive FAQs list arranged by sections and prompt email support.

DList.com looks good and has a range of smart features and a good deal for free members. However, as with so many sites it's let down slightly by its small membership base. Whilst there's plenty to recommend it, including several ways of connecting with other members, you stand a better chance of meeting guys on some of the larger sites, and for this reason alone you should look elsewhere before you settle here.
